This Week's News on HealthIT.gov Hangout If you don't know what Google+ is, you might want to check it out. And see how ONC is hanging out on the social media platform. On Tuesday, ONC’s Chief Scientist Doug Fridsma held a hangout (a webinar/conference/discussion) on Google + with seven health IT gurus from around the country (thanks to all who attended and especially Brian Ahier for showing us the ropes!). Go to the HHS ONC page on Google + (you need to use your Gmail account to sign up for Google +) and follow ONC to check out the video. MU Resources We cleaned up our MU Quick Reference Grids and modified them slightly to reflect the policies expressed in the joint ONC/CMS interim final rule that was released in December 2012. Similarly, the Standards Hub webpage was also revised to reflect the updated standards adopted in the December 2012 interim final rule. FACAs The Health Information Technology Policy Committee (a federal advisory committee that presents recommendations to ONC) held a hearing this past Wednesday to triangulate on the use of clinical documentation in EHRs. What role do these notes play for clinicians? How does this documentation fit into care coordination within a care team? What are acceptable secondary uses for the data? And, of course, how is this information treated for “legal purposes.” All the documents associated with the Clinical Documentation public hearing are available on www.healthit.gov Next up: HIT Standards Committee Meeting which meets next Wednesday (Feb. 20). Health IT Success Stories Check out the latest Health IT Success Stories that highlight EHR implementation and meaningful use experiences from providers around the country. You can find these stories and more under Case Studies & Data: Learn how Dr. Michael Salesin decided to build his own EHR after the hospital he worked for decided to cut out transcription services (circa mid-1990). For more data and information, visit the EHR implementation lifecycle steps and check out the National Learning Consortium (NLC). Connect 4.0 On Monday, ONC and the Federal Health Architecture released CONNECT 4.0, the update to CONNECT, a "dynamic, open source platform for the secure exchange of health information."
