As
we get ready for Mother's Day weekend, we have a variety of new tools,
reports and information on HealthIT.gov for you to peruse at your
leisure.
More and more eligible providers and hospitals are using Health IT than ever before. We have just posted a new infographic
that shows some detail of that usage – and how many are getting help
from their regional extension centers. The information in the new
infographic comes from a recent CMS-ONC fact sheet.
National
Minority Health Month is over, but that doesn’t mean we should stop
raising awareness about health disparities that continue to affect
racial and ethnic minorities. Patients who live in lower socio-economic
circumstances experience disparities in healthcare access and quality. Our research suggests that health information technology has the potential to help alleviate these problems. Read our Buzz blog post about the research.
A trio of new video clips
walk you through the basic concepts of the Health Level 7 (HL7)
Consolidated-CDA standard and how it can be used to meet 2014 Edition
EHR Certification Criteria in support of Meaningful Use Stage 2. The
videos review core features of the standard, requirements placed upon
the use of the standard by certification criteria, as well as the nuts
and bolts of how certification testing is performed for these
certification criteria.
As
part of ONC’s contract on the Unintended Consequences of Health IT and
Health Information Exchange (HIE), two work groups were convened to help
inform ONC’s thinking and improve stakeholder understanding and
awareness about the potential unintended consequences of health IT and
HIE. The final reports are now available on ONC’s website.
Based
on empirical evidence and research literature on consumer eHealth, the
work group identified potential unintended consequences associated with
consumer eHealth and offered “strategies for success” and “questions
for further research” to advance consumer eHealth. The final report summarizes
the literature on the substantial benefits of consumer eHealth as
context for understanding the inevitable, if not always expected,
challenges that arise when potentially powerful new health IT is used to
help empower and engage patients and their caregivers.
The State HIE Program has released Key Considerations for Health Information Organizations Supporting Meaningful Use Stage 2 Transitions of Care.
This document provides options and recommendations for organizations
seeking to support eligible providers in this key measure.
