In This Issue
We had another very busy week that included Dr. Farzad Mostashari’s (@Farzad_ONC) interview about the use of Health IT and EHRs by Audie Cornish on NPR's All Things Considered on Monday and his testimony before the Senate Finance Committee on Thursday. If you didn't get to watch or listen to either and you have time, it's worth it to check out what the ONC chief had to say.
The Committee will be holding another hearing next Wednesday (July 24) at 10:30 a.m. (EST) and there is a very distinguished lineup of witnesses. You can follow the link above to the live streaming of the hearing.
MUS2 Cross Vendor Exchange Demo
CMS announced recently that it would be seeking to designate multiple "Test EHRs" for providers to use if needed, to meet the measure #3 of Stage 2's transition of care objective. This measure requires that providers must demonstrate cross-vendor exchange capability either by a live exchange between providers (preferred). Or, if that is not possible, by conducting one or more successful tests with the CMS-designated Test EHR.
ONC, in collaboration with NIST and CMS, has published additional information and a list of frequently asked questions (FAQs) on Health IT.gov site to provide the criteria required for EHR developers to become a designated EHR.
ONC and CMS intend to launch a pilot program soon with interested organizations that meet the minimum requirements specified in the FAQ, to help in finalizing the process and requirements for designated Test EHRs on an ongoing basis.

App Challenge Winners!
For our nurse readers, you may have some experience with bed sores (pressure ulcers), and understand what a painful and difficult problem this is for long-term care patients. ONC’s Deputy National Coordinator Judy Murphy, RN, (@JudyMurphyONC) announced earlier this week the winners of a new app challenge aimed at finding a solution.
“The challenge sought to inspire the creation of mobile applications that would support nurses and their patients’ health care teams to reduce the incidence and severity of pressure ulcers, as well as to aid in pressure ulcer prevention,” Murphy wrote.

Webinar on NQF Measures Tool
Please join us for a webinar next Friday (July 26) from 1:00 – 2:30 p.m. (EST) for the launch of the National Quality Forum’s (NQF) Quality Positioning System Version 2.0 and the Field Guide to NQF Resources. The Quality Positioning System (QPS) is a web-based tool that helps you more easily find NQF-endorsed® measures. Driven by feedback from users, QPS 2.0 will allow users to:
  • Search for new measures added to Federal reporting and payment programs.
  • Provide feedback at any time about the use and usefulness of measures.
  • View measures that are no longer NQF-endorsed.

Register now for this webinar to learn more about these tools and how they can support your measurement and reporting efforts
