Although computer provider order entry has been advocated as a strategy to reduce medical error, it has yet to be fully incorporated into care settings. Analyzing 10 studies, this review identified common barriers to CPOE adoption, including training issues, ineffective process changes, and efficacy of the technology. The authors discuss the importance of leadership in incentivizing CPOE use and vendor responsibility to addressimplementation challenges.
