Transporting critically ill patients to other hospital areas for tests or procedures can be hazardous, as vividly illustrated in an AHRQ WebM&M commentary. This study reports on the development of a checklist for safe intra-hospital transport, which involved analysis of local safety incidents during transport, discussion with nurses and physicians, and pilot testing to evaluate feasibility and ease of use of the checklist.
