Connecting patients and clinicians: the anticipated effects of Open Notes on patient safety and quality of care.

Providing patients access to their medical records can improve patient engagement and error identification. Drawing from existing evidence on the use of shared physician notes as a communication tool, this commentary outlines the risks and benefits of the approach and explores how access could affect patient safety and care quality.
