Upcoming Webinar on AHRQ QIs: Improving Quality and Safety of Care

AHRQ--Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality: Advancing Excellence in Health Care

Upcoming Webinar—Panel Discussion:  Lessons Learned in Using the AHRQ QIs to Improve the Quality and Safety of Care
The Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ) would like to invite you to join a panel discussion about theAHRQ Quality Indicators (QIs)—standardized, evidence-based quality measures that you can use with readily available hospital inpatient administrative data to measure and track clinical performance and outcomes, including inpatient mortality, surgical complications, and certain hospital-acquired infections.
Representatives from two health systems—Yale New Haven Health System and Essentia Health—will share their experiences implementing the Patient Safety Indicators (PSIs) as part of a larger effort to improve the quality and safety of the care they provide. The PSIs focus specifically on patient safety including post-operative complications and hospital-acquired infections. The discussion will be hosted via a webinar, and followed by a questions and answer session with the speakers and the AHRQ QI Support Team.
Specifically, the webinar will:
  •  Provide a brief overview of the AHRQ QIs including their relevance to federal initiatives
  •  Highlight how two health systems use the PSIs to improve the quality and safety of the care that they provide, including outcomes, challenges, and lessons learned
  •  Highlight resources to support QI users
At the end of the discussion, participants will have a clear understanding of the benefits and impact of the AHRQ QIs and how they can use the AHRQ QIs to help meet their quality and safety goals.
Who Benefits from this WebinarOrganizations who recently started using the AHRQ QIs, those who are considering their use, and hospitals and health systems that want to learn more about the AHRQ QIs.

About the AHRQ Quality Indicators
The AHRQ QIs include four sets of measures—Patient Safety Indicators, Inpatient Quality Indicators, Prevention Quality Indicators, and Pediatric Quality Indicators—which address quality of care for patients hospitalized for a broad range of procedures or conditions that are high risk, problem prone, and/or high volume. The AHRQ QIs represent a national standard and are publicly available at no cost to the user. Many of the indicators are endorsed by the National Quality Forum (NQF), which is considered the gold standard for health care measurement in the United States. They can be used to support quality improvement efforts, public reporting, and accountability programs, and ultimately to help provide safe, effective care to patients. Many of the AHRQ QIs are used by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) and other payers for quality monitoring, pay-for-performance, and value-based purchasing initiatives. Hospitals and health systems can use AHRQ QIs as part of an overall performance initiative to improve the quality of care. For more information about the AHRQ QIs visit http://www.qualityindicators.ahrq.gov/.
