Comments Sought: Food Allergy Guidelines Update

NIAID is seeking public comment on a draft update to theGuidelines for the Diagnosis and Management of Food Allergy in the United States to address the prevention of peanut allergy. The update was prompted by findings from the NIAID-funded LEAP study, which showed thatintroducing peanut-containing foods to infants at high risk for peanut allergy substantially reduced subsequent development of the allergy.


The public comment period begins today and will remain open for 45 days, ending April 18.

The public comment period on the 2016 Addendum to the 2010 Guidelines for the Diagnosis and Management of Food Allergy in the United States is now open.
This addendum provides three practical recommendations, intended for health care providers and parents and caregivers, to prevent the development of peanut allergy in infants. These recommendations were prompted by findings from the NIAID-funded LEAP study, which showed that introducing peanut-containing foods to infants at high risk for peanut allergy substantially reduced subsequent development of the allergy.
These draft addendum guidelines were developed prior to the publication of the Enquiring About Tolerance (EAT)External Web Site Policystudy. Comments are welcome on the findings of this study and its implications. It is expected that the final addendum guidelines will be revised to include this published data.
The public comment period closes on April 18, 2016.
