Final Rule: Extension of Deadline for Access Monitoring Review Plan Submissions

Today the Center for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) put on display at the Federal Register a final rule to extend the deadline for states to submit the access monitoring review plan to CMS to October 1, 2016. The deadline was previously July 1, 2016. In the November 2, 2015 final rule with comment period, Medicaid Program; Methods for Assuring Access to Covered Medicaid Services, CMS provided an additional opportunity for comment on the access review requirements described at 42 C.F.R. § 447.203(b)(5). Several commenters requested CMS change the deadline by which states are required to develop and submit the access monitoring review plan to CMS, noting that state agency staff may have difficulty developing and submitting the initial review plans by July 1, 2016.
