Now Available: AHRQ 2016 Hospital User Comparative Database Report

AHRQ--Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality: Advancing Excellence in Health Care

AHRQ’s Hospital Survey on Patient Safety Culture: 2016 Comparative Database Report is now available and provides results from 447,584 staff in 680 U.S. hospitals that administered the survey, including first-time comparative results from children’s hospitals. Comparative results are presented by hospital characteristics (bed size, teaching status, ownership, and geographic region) and respondent characteristics (work area, staff position).
The survey composite that had the highest increase over time was Supervisor/Manager Expectations and Actions Promoting Patient Safety. The composite measured the extent to which supervisors/managers consider staff suggestions for improving patient safety, praise staff for following patient safety procedures, and do not overlook patient safety problems.
Hospitals that administered the survey can use the results to compare their patient safety culture to other participating U.S. hospitals.
