Threats to safety during sedation outside of the operating room and the death of Michael Jackson.

As use of anesthesia outside the operating room increases, the hazards associated with the practice are becoming more evident. This review discusses sedation in the ambulatory settingand highlights how factors related to the care environment, equipment, and teamwork contribute to the risks.
