Tools for Patients and Clinicians Deciding How to Manage Binge-Eating Disorder

New tools from the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ) can help adult patients diagnosed with binge-eating disorder (BED) make informed decisions with their health care professionals about treatments. The clinician summary and patient brochure will help prepare clinicians and adult patients to talk about the benefits and harms of psychotherapy and medicines. To enhance the discussion, the clinician summary includes talking points and the patient brochure includes sample questions to ask a clinician. Continuing medical education credit is available at no cost, and provides health care providers with skills and information to support decision making. These tools are products of a systematic review that evaluated the evidence regarding the effectiveness, comparative effectiveness, and adverse effects of treatments for patients with BED, and assessed psychological and behavioral therapy and pharmacological interventions.
