AHRQ Summarize Evidence Related to the Management of Postpartum Hemorrhage
A new evidence-based summary from AHRQ is available to help clinician’s make treatment decisions to manage postpartum hemorrhage (PPH). Findings show limited evidence about the benefits of using pharmaceutical, medical, and surgical interventions to manage PPH; evidence related to systems-level interventions was mixed (i.e., a practice group, healthcare provider or hospital system). Diagnosis of PPH is determined on a case-by-case basis, and successful management of the condition often involves clinicians needing to initiate numerous treatments quickly. Clinicians should follow consensus guidelines, expert opinions, and local protocols to manage PPH. Visit the Effective Health Care Program website for electronic copies of the research summary and the full systematic review.
