WHAT:
Georgetown University will host U.S. Attorney General Loretta Lynch, DEA Acting
Administrator Chuck Rosenberg, FBI Director James Comey, and other distinguished panelists during a screening of the FBI/DEA documentary Chasing the Dragon: The Life of an Opiate Addict on Wednesday, September 21st at 6:00 p.m. in Georgetown University’s Healy Hall.
The documentary screening is part of DOJ’s National Heroin and Opioid Awareness
Week and is being hosted by Georgetown University in partnership with the Department of Justice, the Drug Enforcement Administration, and the Federal Bureau of Investigation.
In February 2016, the FBI and DEA released the documentary video Chasing the
Dragon. The 45-minute film, whose title refers to the unattainable pursuit of the original or ultimate high, features stark first-person accounts told by individuals who have abused opioids or whose children have abused opioids with tragic consequences.
The video is meant to serve as a conversation starter in classrooms, homes,
community centers, and churches across the country. The stories contained in this film are tragic and real. Some of the individuals from the film will be in attendance. Awareness of the problem is the first step towards solving it. This film is designed to wake people up to the realities of prescription opioids and heroin and the brain disease that is addiction.
Following a question and answer session by Georgetown students with FBI
Director Comey and DEA Acting Administrator Rosenberg, a panel discussion will be held with experts to discuss the opioid epidemic and related issues WHO:
Loretta Lynch, U.S. Attorney General
James Comey, Director, Federal Bureau of Investigation
Chuck Rosenberg, Acting Administrator, Drug Enforcement Administration
Edward Montgomery, Moderator, Dean of the McCourt School of Public Policy
