High quality data form the backbone of our nation’s HIV response. National surveillance of HIV cases provides the critical information we need to set prevention priorities, allocate limited prevention resources, and measure our collective progress against the disease. HIV surveillance is one of CDC’s most important responsibilities. Read more from the Director on the importance of this new data release.

New Vital Signs Release

New Vital SignsHIV Injection Drug Use: Syringe Services Programs for HIV Prevention, was released in November 2016. Sharing needles, syringes, and other injection equipment puts people who inject drugs (PWID) at high risk for getting HIV and other infections, including hepatitis. Read more about the new trends and ways to reduce risk for all people who inject drugs.

CDC Launches Its First Music Video

Earlier this year, the Start Talking. Stop HIV. campaign produced a vibrant, youthful 2-minute music video that promotes the ever-growing variety of HIV prevention options available. The upbeat music video features gender-bending pop star Alex Newell singing his hit single "Collect My Love," which was released by the band The Knocks. Read more and watch the music video.
