MLK and the Journey Towards Health Equity
“Of all the forms of inequality, injustice in health is the most shocking and the most inhuman because it often results in physical death.”
On Monday, January 16th we celebrate the birthday and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Although we have made significant progress in the time since his passing, we are reminded daily that there is still more to be accomplished. Today, minority communities and those at the lower rungs socio-economically remain disproportionately burdened by chronic disease and are much more likely to succumb to certain illnesses.
The FDA Office of Minority Health (OMH) is dedicated to strengthening FDA’s ability to respond to minority health concerns. Whether we are producing public service announcements to encourage minority participation in clinical trials or addressing language barriers by translating factsheets and brochures, OMH is committed to helping our citizens live their healthiest life possible. Over the days, weeks, and months ahead we will continue to identify areas where we can have the greatest impact on the lives and the health of underserved populations. We look forward to working with you in 2017 in carrying forward Dr. King’s vision for all.
