AHRQ Celebrates Patient Safety Awareness Week With Variety of Activities
AHRQ is collaborating with the National Patient Safety Foundation (NPSF) to celebrate Patient Safety Awareness Week (March 12-18) through a series of activities recognizing the importance of keeping patients safe in all health care settings:
  • March 14 from 1 to 2 p.m. ET, Twitter chat, “Patient Safety: What Patients Want (and Need) to Know.”  To join the chat, use #psaw17chat.
  • March 14 release of a toolkit to reduce catheter-associated urinary tract infections (CAUTIs) and other healthcare-associated infections in long-term care settings. This new AHRQ evidence-based toolkit uses the Comprehensive Unit-based Safety Program (CUSP) to reduce infections. The toolkit is based on the experiences of more than 450 long-term care facilities nationwide and resulted in a significant reduction of CAUTI rates.
  • March 16 from 11:30 am to 12:30 p.m. ET, Presentation, “Promoting a Culture of Safety,” with the HHS Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) to provide an overview of AHRQ’s patient safety initiatives. Click here for remote access to the HRSA presentation or call in at 1-877-917-7126 (participant code: 3463268).
AHRQ also will feature blog posts on patient safety topics throughout the week and will disseminate information about additional AHRQ resources that can be used to improve patient safety.
