Online Event: ONC’s Interoperability in Action Day

Are you interested in the latest in apps and health IT interoperability advances? What about current interoperability pilot projects happening across the United States? Join us on March 20 for the Office of the National Coordinator for Health IT's (ONC) Interoperability in Action Day. It is a can’t miss opportunity for you to see presentations and demos about these projects. The online event will consist of a morning session updating you on the ONC App Challenges and an afternoon session covering ongoing work and pilot activities. Blockchain in Healthcare Code-A-Thon

ONC, in collaboration with the Chamber of Digital Commerce, will be hosting a health standards and data innovation Code-A-Thon at Georgetown University in Washington, DC. Participants will develop applications and solutions that address key issues in the nation’s health care system – including identity management, data aggregation, and data linkage. The challenge will start on Tuesday, March 14, 2017 at 11:00 am ET and will end at 7:00 am ET Wednesday, March 15, 2017. Challenge winners will be announced the second day of the event and will be awarded prizes up to $15,000.

Now Available: PMI Security Principles Implementation Guide

ONC, along with the HHS Office for Civil Rights (OCR) and the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST), released the Precision Medicine Initiative (PMI) Security Principles Implementation Guide. The guide is designed to help organizations adapt PMI data security principles to their own environment and security challenges. This new guide supports the final PMI Data Security Policy Principles and Framework, which provides a framework that research organizations can use to protect participant data and secure the systems that underpin precision medicine research.

Blue Button on FHIR: Improving Medicare Beneficiary Access to Their Health Information

Federal agencies are working to advance consumer access, sharing, and use of health information. This includes initiatives like the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services’ (CMS) Blue Button on FHIR, which can improve Medicare beneficiary access to their health information. The mission of the project is to enhance CMS’ current Blue Button service to provide an Application Programming Interface (API) so beneficiaries can connect their Medicare claims data to applications, services, and research programs they trust.
