Innovation on molluscicides development and application

Guest Edited by Henry Madson, David Rollinson, Nicholas Midzi, Xiao-Nong Zhou

Background
There are challenges and complicated factors involved in the interruption of transmission of neglected tropical diseases (NTDs) which has been one of new indicators in the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). For instance, single approach by using preventive chemotherapy in the national schistosomiasis control programme will be difficult to end endemicity of schistosomiasis as one of SDGs indicator. Needs on developing better strategies to mitigate these challenges have been widely discussed for the global actions such as application of mollusciciding in the programmes to complement the elimination strategies of schistosomiasis, ensure proper molluscicides application in the field with a good molluscicidal efficacy, develop innovative snail control tools and molluscicides delivering tools, fill gaps in knowledge on mechanism of molluscicides effectiveness, molluscicidal screening strategies or methodologies and impact of management practices. Particularly, it is time for the community of global schistosomiasis elimination to discuss the cost-effectiveness of mollusciciding component in the elimination programme.
Infectious Diseases of Poverty is an open access, peer-reviewed journal publishing topic areas and methods that address essential public health questions relating to infectious diseases of poverty. Transdisciplinary or multisectoral effects on health systems, ecohealth, environmental management, and innovative technology are the priority areas for the publications. Several Thematic Series with a specific topic have been published in Infectious Diseases of Poverty during last two years, which has trigged more transdisciplinary researches in infectious diseases from the developing world.
Objectives
To trigger more research activities in the field of molluscicides development and application in the national control programme of neglected tropical diseases, a thematic series "Innovation on molluscicides development and application" will be published in Infectious Diseases of Poverty in the second half year of 2017.
You are welcome to submit your recent review or research findings on the theme of "Innovation on molluscicides development and application". The final publication will be subjected to standard peer review. These articles will be available from the Infectious Diseases of Poverty website and via the NIH repository, PubMed Central, will be immediately included in PubMed.
Timeline
The deadline for submissions is August 31st, 2017. To submit your manuscript, please use our online submission system, and indicate in your cover letter that you would like the manuscript to be considered for this thematic series.
