Updated State School Immunization Requirements and Vaccine Exemption Laws Polar Graph and Analysis. State laws establish exemptions for school vaccination requirements and set requirements regarding the vaccination exemption application process and the implications of exemptions during an outbreak. CDC’s Public Health Law Program (PHLP) has updated it polar graph highlighting nine attributes in school vaccination exemption laws and an accompanying summary of state vaccination laws.

The Latest in Vaccine Policies: Selected Issues in School Vaccinations, Healthcare Worker Vaccinations, and Pharmacist Vaccination Authority Laws. PHLP has published a new article in the Journal of Law, Medicine & Ethics that identifies and discusses changes and trends in select state vaccine policy issues developing across the United States that can affect rates of vaccination.

Webinar—Legal Epidemiology, Part 1: A Tool for Advancing from Data to Policy. In partnership with PHLP, the National Environmental Health Association will host a three-part webinar series focused on the emerging field of legal epidemiology. The first webinar will feature CDC speakers and serve as an introduction to legal epidemiology, the scientific study of law as a factor in the cause, distribution, and prevention of disease and injury. The webinar will examine the relationship between environmental health and policy and describe how legal epidemiology can be used as a tool to advance from data to policy. This free webinar will take place May 10, 2017, from 1:00 to 2:30 pm (EDT).

Webinar—Housing as a Social Determinant of Health: Regulations and their Impact. This webinar, co-hosted by the Network for Public Health Law and PHLP, will discuss how housing laws and regulations impact health outcomes and how housing-related legal approaches act as determinants of health. Speakers will discuss the role of law in ensuring the availability and access to affordable, healthy housing and highlight state and federal regulations aimed at achieving that goal. This free webinar will take place May 18, 2017, from 1:00 to 2:30 pm (EDT).

HHS Emergency Use of Nerve Agent Antidotes. The Health and Human Services Secretary published a Federal Register notice, “Determination and Declaration Regarding Emergency Use of Injectable Treatments for Nerve Agent or Certain Insecticide (Organophosphorus and/or Carbamate) Poisoning,” on April 17, 2017. The notice authorizes emergency use of injectable treatments for nerve agents or certain insecticide poisoning and acknowledges a significant potential for a public health emergency involving such agents.

Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) Accountable Health Communities Model Participants. CMS has selected 32 participant organizations to serve as local hubs linking clinical and community services. Over a five-year period, CMS will implement and test the three-track Accountable Health Communities model to support local communities in addressing the health-related social needs of Medicare and Medicaid beneficiaries by bridging the gap between clinical and community service providers. Social needs include housing instability, food insecurity, utility needs, interpersonal violence, and transportation.

Public Health Preparedness Learning Module for New Preparedness Coordinators. The National Association of County and City Health Officials released “Introduction to Public Health Preparedness,” an online course that introduces public health law in the context of emergency preparedness.
