Hot Training Topic: Opioid Prescribing

Opioid Training

In 2016, the overall national opioid prescribing rate in the United States fell to its lowest point in more than 10 years. Despite this overall decline, prescribing rates remain very high in areas across the country, with some counties’ rates being seven times higher than the national rate. These data emphasize the ongoing need for progress in preventing opioid overdose deaths.
New! The recently developed “Providers’ Clinical Support System for Opioid Therapies (PCSS-O) Core Curriculum” offers primary care providers comprehensive guidance for treating chronic pain. This 14-module curriculum includes current and evidence-based information on best opioid prescribing practices. Modules cover chronic pain evaluation, opioid risk assessment and mitigation, non-pharmacological treatments, and more. Each module (except the Overview module) is designated for 1 AMA PRA Category 1 Credit™.
