Disaster App Supports Responders Providing Relief After Hurricanes Harvey and Irma

The effects of a disaster or traumatic event can often be felt long after its immediate devastation. Like the severe flooding and storm damage currently affecting parts of the Caribbean, Florida, Texas, and the Gulf Coast, disasters can cause acute stress in survivors dealing with fear, loss, and uncertainty. For responders navigating the emotional toll following a disaster, access to disaster behavioral health resources is critical to fostering recovery and resilience.
The SAMHSA Disaster App offers behavioral health responders immediate access to tips and information for all phases of disaster response, including the resources from SAMHSA's Disaster Kit and SAMHSA's Behavioral Health Treatment Facilities Locator, right on their smartphone. Responders can rely on and access pre-downloaded resources on their phone in case of limited Internet connectivity in the field. The app is free for download for iPhone®, Android, and BlackBerry®.
