As one option to achieve interoperability and reduce redundant electronic connections, many states and communities are using health information exchange (HIE) organizations to mediate connections to public health information systems. New Data on the Adoption and Use of Health IT in Skilled Nursing Facilities
A new report from ONC highlights nationally representative metrics on electronic health record (EHR) adoption and health information exchange among skilled nursing facilities (SNFs). A majority (64%) of SNFs reported having an EHR in 2016. Moreover, three in ten SNFs exchanged (electronically sent or received) key clinical health information and nearly two-thirds of SNFs had information electronically available from outside sources at the point of care.
