Gopal KhannaAHRQ is pleased once again to participate in AcademyHealth's annual Health Datapalooza, the premier health data conference of the year! The 2018 Health Datapalooza will bring together health data experts and organizations from across the country to discuss how we can all use data to pioneer innovations that drive health policy and practice.
Finding new ways to learn from data to improve health care for all Americans is an important goal for AHRQ. But we can't work on this topic in a vacuum. We need to hear from folks on the local level about the challenges they are facing. We also want to learn about new and widening uses of data from the many partners who share our vision, including State and local policymakers, public health advocates, health systems leaders, data organizations, and health services researchers.
That's why I am excited to be part of a special listening session AHRQ is holding on this topic the day before Datapalooza. The free session, "AHRQ Data Competencies to Support Decision Makers: What Do You Need To Make Decisions at the State and Local Levels to Improve Health Care? Link to Exit Disclaimer", which will take place on April 25, from 1 to 5 p.m., in Washington, D.C. It's a chance to learn more about AHRQ's data competencies and to co-create ideas together about challenges and opportunities, including ways we can provide better data, research, tools, and resources to help local decision makers provided better health care for their communities.
My AHRQ colleagues and I are pleased that we'll be joined by Mona Siddiqui, M.D., M.P.H., Chief Data Officer, Department of Health and Human Services, and Anand Parekh, M.D., Chief Medical Advisor at the Bipartisan Policy Center. Together, we look forward to hearing your perspective on how State and local decision makers use data to improve health care. The interactive session will include an overview of two important AHRQ data resources: the Healthcare Cost and Utilization Project and the Medical Expenditure Panel Survey. The event is free and open to the public, but registration Link to Exit Disclaimer is required.
Meanwhile, if you are also attending the 2018 Health Datapalooza conference April 26-27, please plan to attend an April 26 presentation on Clinical Decision Support (CDS). My colleague Ed Lomotan, M.D., AHRQ's Chief of Clinical Informatics, will highlight AHRQ's CDS Connect project during the panel presentation, "Smart Data to Support Clinical Decision Making Link to Exit Disclaimer." Paid registration Link to Exit Disclaimer is required to attend Datapalooza. AHRQ staff will be exhibiting at Booth 414 with more information and resources.
Each year, Health Datapalooza attracts the best minds to share ideas about how data can be used to improve health care in a digital age. AHRQ is honored to play an important role at the event again this year as efforts continue to turn information into innovation. We hope to see you there!
Gopal Khanna is the Director of AHRQ.
