The U.S. Preventive Services Task Force seeks comments on a draft recommendation statement and draft evidence review on screening for intimate partner violence, elder abuse, and abuse of vulnerable adultsClinicians should screen all women of reproductive age for intimate partner violence and provide or refer those who screen positive to ongoing support services. The Task Force also found that there is not enough evidence to determine the benefits or harms of screening for elder abuse or abuse of vulnerable adults. The draft recommendation statement and draft evidence review are available for review and public comment from April 24, 2018 to May 21, 2018 here.

The USPSTF recommends that clinicians screen for intimate partner violence (IPV) in women of reproductive age and provide or refer women who screen positive to ongoing support services.

The USPSTF concludes that the current evidence is insufficient to assess the balance of benefits and harms of screening for abuse and neglect in all older or vulnerable adults (i.e., those who are physically or mentally dysfunctional).
